A PICNIC IN KWOMAIS POINT PARK
If you're looking for the perfect park to have a picnic in, Ocean Park has many options for you. For a spiritually calming walk, Kwomais Point Park located on the bluff of Ocean Park is ideal. Stand among the old-growth trees and wander the field of daisies. Take a meditative walk in the labyrinth or sit back and take in the vast ocean view at the view point. Get adventurous and wander into one of the forested trails, rich with luscious ferns and other native plants. Settle down and have a picnic in the ample green space and just be for a little while.
A BIKE RIDE TO CRESCENT PARK
If you feel like taking a bike ride, making your destination Crescent Park from Ocean Park Village makes for a lovely day. Access the hidden bike route from 129a Street and 18th Avenue. Once on the route, you will need to cross over a few streets to connect into Huntingdon Park and then into the lovely Crescent Park. Once there you can take a tour of the pond, look for turtles, frogs and spend time with the ducks. Have a play on the playground, or a bite under the sheltered picnic tables. Of course, you can also find yourself simply immersed in nature, likely to find ample salmon and huckle-berries for a quick snack too!
A DAY ON THE BEACH
If you're looking to access the beach, Ocean Park has three shoreline access points to choose from. If you're adventurous and ok with a little pedestrian off-roading, you can consider the impressive stairway and trail at Olympia Trail. Not exactly the best option with young children or aging participants, but a great spot for a private day on the beach. The most popular access point is likely 1001 steps, with actually only 124 steps and a short trail which will lead you directly to the beach for a rocky, but relaxing setting. The last option is 101 steps, located on 24th avenue on the bluff. This location will take you to a sheltered overpass which leads beach-goers to the sandiest shoreline of the batch, and little enclaves made of driftwood to nestle yourself in. This location is also conveniently located just a 20 minute walk from the restaurants and ice-cream shops of Crescent Beach.
A DAY AT THE PLAYGROUND
If you're looking for a playground to take the kids to, you're in luck. With a recent renovation to the site, Fun Fun Park has gone from lacklustre to double the fun! With new playground equipment, natural playscapes, plentry of forest trails and a mini bike park for the littles, you could easily find yourself staying for the day. Didn't bring a snack? No problem, head to the Village and grab a bite at one of the local eateries and head back to the park to finish your day. If you're looking for a washroom you will have to consider walking down to Kwomais Park or the Ocean Park Library.
