Head Curator, Michelle tags along with local crabbers Stuart and Colleen McMillan and enjoys a day boating and crabbing at Crescent Beach Yacht Club on the McMillan's boat. What ensues is an adventurous and delicious evening (think crab in garlic sriracha butter) totally celebrating Ocean Park Life.
Stuart and Colleen McMillan are long time residents of Ocean Park. Colleen is a kindergartenTeacher and Stuart owns a Sleep Apnea business which he runs out of offices in South Surrey and Cloverdale.
They bought their boat as lofty young adults pre-kids and have enjoyed the beautiful lifestyle as a result. They launch their boat down at Crescent Beach Yacht Club and head out under the train bridge and past Blackie Spit.
While Stuart and one of his sons love boating fast and crashing over the wakes of other boats, Colleen and their other son prefer when they slowly make their way at a gentle pace, taking in the magnificent scenery of Crescent Beach from the water side.
Their crab traps are marked with bouys and are left out in the ocean. Checking the traps once a week seems to be the summer average but depending on the weather, it could be more or less.
Once the (legal limit per person) of crabs are collected, they head home to enjoy a steamed crab feast with friends or just for themselves. If they are not going to eat them that day, they freeze them or cook them and remove the meat, which can then be frozen and used at a later time.
For this culinary crabbing adventure, the crab was steamed and devoured dipped in garlic, herb and sriracha butter! Delicious to say the least.
